[crashcourseincooking 1] – the tools

You want to cook at home, but you don’t know if you have all the necessary utensils. What should you have in the kitchen so you can cook fast, varied and safe? Do you need to have the kitchen equipped like on a TV shows or can you make it with a pot and a frying pan?

Well, no one stops you from arranging your kitchen like in MasterChef. But you don’t need to have the latest generations of pots to cook healthy food at home. In principle, everyone equips their kitchen according to their budget, space and how long they are going to spend cooking in it.

If you want to start from scratch, then the base should be the following: a pot (for boiling) and a frying pan (to fry, sauté, etc.), their size depending on how much you intend to cook, it’s better a little bigger; a lid suitable for both, if they have a similar diameter, a large strainer (if not, use the lid), a shredder, a large cutting knife, a ladle. The rest are the usual cutlery: plates, cups, bowls, spoons, forks, knives, teaspoons. For the oven, trays of different sizes.

As appliances, you need a stove and a refrigerator; the freezer and the oven are a bonus. A mixer/blender, a kettle, a microwave, a Thermomix, etc. will help.

More utensils will help you save time, but you will discover that in time, by cooking.

Nowadays, even though we no longer have specialty stores, there are specialty departments in all supermarkets and prices vary for all pockets. But a good frying pan, even if it is more expensive, can save you energy and money in the long run!

If you’ve made a list of the utensils, let’s see in Episode 2 what recipes we cook.

No matter how disastrous you are, you can learn to cook in your own kitchen (or you can burn your friends’ kitchen, no problem :P). Read here all the episodes of the CRASH COURSE IN COOKING brought to you by #disasterinthekitchen. And get to work, come on, we want to see some photos! 🙂
